I wanted to share a bit about my curly hair journey and my favorite hair products that I use at the moment. The products listed are all that have helped my curls feel healthier and moisturized. I typically rotate the products because I honestly love them all and some serve the same purpose. I’ll explain later as I list them out!
Let’s start off that I did not have curly hair growing up. I had straight/wavy as a child and my curls did not begin to appear until I hit puberty. Either that or I magically grew curly hair the summer before I started 7th grade. I’m not kidding but it seems like that was the time my hair transitioned from frizz-free wavy to thick curly hair.
During my middle and high school years it is safe to say I had no idea what to put in my hair besides mousse or gel. It was always crunchy and stiff. Plus, the style back then was to have a part at the front in the middle or on the side and tie it as tight as possible in the back. If you went to middle school with me you know exactly what I am talking about. LOL. As I got older to make my life easier I began to straighten my hair more and more often. Can we say heat damage?!
It wasn’t until a few years ago that I really wanted to start taking care of my curls. I wanted to get my hair dyed at a salon that specialized in curly hair and the stylist refused to color my unhealthy hair. I appreciated her honesty and trusted her in the tips she provided to help my hair. After that, I went a few months without putting any heat to it and little by little my curls began to flourish.
I am still learning about my unpredictable curly hair and I have yet to figure out how to properly use a diffuser. However, I can name a few products that have helped me throughout this curly hair journey. They are products that I currently use and love. Below are a few of my favorites and why I love each one.
Miss Jessie’s Leave In Condish and Pillow Soft Curls These two products from this brand are my absolute favorite! The Leave-In Conditioner is lightweight and moisturizes my hair while minimizing the frizz. I apply this after I am out of the shower before I apply any other products to my hair. I can not brag enough about Pillow Soft Curls and how soft it makes my hair feel. This is a lightweight cream that smells amazing and my curls are bouncy every time I use.
Hask Hair Masks I typically deep condition my hair once every week with these hair masks. I use the Keratin Protein and Argan Oil. They are about $2-3 dollars depending on where you buy and I usually grab 2 or 3 when I go grocery shopping. I prefer to buy the individuals packs but they do sell them in full size. Deep conditioning my hair has been a game-changer for the moisture in my curls. I love to deep condition my hair on the weekend since it does require you to leave the product in for some time before rinsing.
The Enhancer Mousse by Botanika Beauty Mousse was not a part of my curly hair routine for the longest because I was afraid my curls would look wet, hard and crunchy. I decided to try out the product when the brand was launched by All Things Ada on Instagram. The Enhancer Mousse is lightweight, super moisturizing and most importantly effective. A little goes a long way which is another reason why I enjoy this product so much.
Ouidad Curl Quencher A moisturizing style gel that will not weigh down your curls. My curls are always tight when I use this product and I like to fluff them out as my hair dries. I also love to use this product to refresh my curls and it helps minimize the frizz. The Curl Quencher is a nice lightweight gel with a refreshing scent.
Marc Anthony Coconut Oil This is a hydrating style oil that I love to spray on my curls. It helps add shine and minimize my frizz while smelling great. I normally spray the Coconut Oil & Shea Butter Dry Styling Oil once my hair is almost dry as I fluff it out completely. It is typically the last product I touch up with hair with as I head out. If you want to shine this is your go-to product.
As I continue to find out the right products for my hair I will keep you guys posted about what I learn. Let me know which products you are currently using and why you love them in the comments below!
With love,
Carolina L.
